Meet Us: The Joe Edition
Joe and his lovely wife, Pam, are the owners of Cathy's Flowers. Joe is constantly inspired to new creative heights by new products, and new trends. He is continually updating his style and pushing the limits!
Joe was the 2001 president of the Arkansas Floral Association. He graduated from the Arkansas master Florist Program. He has worked countless hours at the convention! He does everything from Chairman of the Scholarship Design Competition, to Em-Ce of the silk panel designers. He has won the Arkansas Scholarship Competition, Arkansas Cup, Mid America, and Southern Retail Designer of the Year, and the Recipient of the Bill Plummer Distinguished Award.
Joe does between 80-100 weddings each year, and has been doing them since 1976. That clocks him in at about 3,330 weddings that he's done in his lifetime! His favorite style to design is an English Garden style, which is open, airy and natural. The key element of the style is to artfully design the arrangements to look natural and easy. The picture below is from the Ward/ Boyce wedding that we recently did:
Another of Joe's favorite recent weddings was the Tribble wedding reception at the country club. It was a gorgeous, elegant wedding. Joe says it was one of his favorites because Dana was to wonderful to work with, and so easy-going!
His own wedding in 1981 was done in pink and burgundy, with brass accents, football mums and carnations. Looking back, he says the only thing he would change about the day was the decor! The day of their wedding, his pastor had borrowed their car to go visiting. When Joe and Pam went to make their get away, the found the car covered in Vaseline and shaving cream - and the gas gauge on empty! The first thing they did as a married couple was stop at a gas station, then a car wash!
The worst wedding catastrophe Joe can remember involved a seven tier wedding cake. The cake was leaning when the bakery delivered it, and as soon as they left, the cake slid to the floor - and all of this happened about an hour before the ceremony! Joe called the bakery, and they sent seven cake designers out there to try to rescue the cake, but only the bottom couple of layers were salvageable, so they served guests from sheet cakes they baked in the church's kitchen.
Joe loves to work with Lakepoint Conference Center or Russellville Country club for weddings, and this areas has a lot of great venues, any of which can be transformed with the Cathy's Flowers Magic Touch! He has done several destination weddings this year, and would love to do even more. It presents new challenges for him, and also gives brides confidence that their event will be top-notch!
